Aegean Airlines Successfully Completes Software Rollback After Airbus Alert
Aegean Airlines announced on Saturday that it has resumed normal flight operations after successfully completing a mandatory software rollback on several Airbus A320 family aircraft. This decision came in response to an alert issued by Airbus late last Friday, urging operators worldwide to revert to earlier software versions due to potential safety concerns.
The Greek airline swiftly activated all necessary operational and technical procedures following the directive from Airbus. The alert was primarily triggered by an investigation into a JetBlue incident that occurred last month, where a sudden altitude drop was attributed to possibly corrupted flight control data caused by intense solar radiation.
In a statement, Aegean Airlines reassured passengers that the rollback process was executed without any alterations or disruptions to flights, emphasizing, "The safety of our passengers and crews is our non-negotiable priority."
In light of this situation, regulatory bodies such as the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have mandated airlines to implement the necessary software fix. Over 500 US-registered aircraft have been identified as potentially affected, and EU regulators have indicated a possibility of short-term schedule disruptions.
The Airbus A320 family is recognized as the world's best-selling single-aisle aircraft line and is widely utilized by airlines globally. Airbus, one of the leading aircraft manufacturers alongside Boeing, has attributed the issue to a recent software update on onboard computers.
As the airline industry continues to prioritize passenger safety, the prompt response from Aegean Airlines highlights the importance of immediate action in maintaining aircraft reliability and ensuring the ongoing trust of travelers.
