2025 Feroz Awards: Nominations Unveiled with 'House on Fire' and 'Wanting' Leading the Pack
The landscape of Spanish cinema and television is set to be celebrated at the 2025 Feroz Awards, with 'House on Fire' by Dani de la Orden and 'Wanting' by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa emerging as front-runners. Announced on Thursday by actors Álvaro Rico and Clara Galle, these nominations showcase the remarkable talent in the industry as the awards ceremony approaches, scheduled for January 25 in Pontevedra.
With eight nominations, 'House on Fire' stands out as the favorite in the film category. Among its nominations, the film contends for best director, alongside individual nods for its cast, including Emma Vilarasau, María Rodríguez Soto, Enric Auquer, and Alberto San Juan. The film will also compete for best comedy film, best screenplay through Eduard Solà, and best poster.
Trailing closely, three cinematic works—'The Room Next Door' by Pedro Almodóvar, 'The Red Virgin' by Paula Ortiz, and 'The Glimmers' by Pilar Palomero—each received six nominations. These films are also in the race for best direction alongside Arantxa Etxeberría's 'The Infiltrator.' In terms of comedy, 'Bodegón with Ghosts,' 'Looking for Coque,' 'Escape,' and 'You Will Return' will vie against 'House on Fire.' The drama category will feature intense competition with nominations such as 'The Room Next Door,' 'The Red Virgin,' 'The Blue Star,' 'The Glimmers,' and 'Hail Mary.'
In television, 'Wanting' by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa—the series that has already garnered significant acclaim—has been nominated for seven awards. Among its nominations are best dramatic series, best lead actress (Nagore Aranburu), best lead actor (Pedro Casablanc), and supporting roles for Loreto Mauleón, Miguel Bernardeau, and Iván Pellicer. The series is also competing for the best screenplay.
Other notable series include 'Celeste' with five nominations and 'The Asunta Case,' 'The New Years,' 'We Will See Each Other in Another Life,' and 'Me Addict,' each receiving four nominations. Competing alongside 'Wanting' for best dramatic series are 'The New Years,' 'Cristóbal Balenciaga,' and 'We Will See Each Other in Another Life.' In the comedic category, 'Celeste,' 'Mamen Mayo,' 'Dead SL,' and 'Medina the Celebrity Scammer' will compete for top honors.
In a nod to exemplary career contributions, the Feroz Honor Award will be presented to esteemed director and screenwriter Jaime Chávarri. The organization highlights that an examination of Chávarri's filmography is akin to a review of Spain's cinematic history itself.
The excitement is building for the upcoming gala, hosted by La Dani, scheduled for January 25 at the Pontevedra Fairgrounds. Remarkably, Pontevedra will also serve as the venue for the 2026 edition, ensuring that the city continues to play a pivotal role in honoring Spanish cinema and television.
This year's nominations not only reflect the depth of talent but also the evolving narratives within Spanish storytelling, encouraging discussions about themes such as relationships and societal issues, as indicated by the experiences shared by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa regarding the difficult topics explored in 'Wanting.' As the world of Spanish film and television progresses, the 2025 Feroz Awards promise to be a landmark event celebrating the creativity and resilience of artists across the nation.
