A Night of Triumph: Felicia and Brandsta City Släckers Shine at Melodifestivalen
In an exhilarating night filled with anticipation and surprise, Felicia emerged as the biggest winner, expressing her joy post-performance, saying, "It feels absolutely amazing, I am so so so happy!" Known for captivating audiences with her eclectic style, Felicia's latest track, "My System," represents a departure from her previous work in the epadunk genre, leaning more towards techno and house vibes, and she has voiced concerns about its reception. "I think the song is one that works better outside of Sweden," she remarked, hinting at her international aspirations.
This marks a significant comeback for Felicia, who last competed in 2024 with her song "Unga fria," which fell just short of the final qualifier. Now, with bubbles in hand, she celebrates her first placement in the finals. "I have to spray someone in the face with bubbles! Honestly, I would like to do it on Brandsta. I spray bubbles on them and they shoot a fire extinguisher back at me," she joked, showcasing her fun-loving spirit.
Making waves alongside her in the competition, the nostalgic Brandsta City Släckers have made a triumphant return, having last graced Melodifestivalen over 20 years ago. Their entry, "Rakt in i elden," earned them the second spot in the finals, proving that their musical spark remains ever-strong. Tom Börjesson from the group expressed their hopes before the performance, acknowledging the fierce competition. "We had hoped, but it was a really good starting field so you weren’t sure," he said.
However, the performance almost hit a snag when one of their crucial pyro effects was missing. Frontman Glenn Borgkvist admits, "We have no idea" what went wrong, adding an air of mystery to their show. Additionally, the band faced a separate challenge earlier in the week when member Olle Östberg injured his hand, preventing him from sliding down the fire pole as they had planned. "But I will fix that for the final. Four weeks of rest should do wonders; I have good healing meat," he quipped, maintaining a light-hearted demeanor despite the challenges.
In a commendable third place was former Melodifestival winner Robin Bengtsson, who advanced to the final qualifier with his latest country track, "Honey honey." After the announcement, he expressed gratitude for reaching this stage, saying, "That was quite expected. Even though I set out with the goal of making it to the final, I am super grateful."
As the competition heats up, audiences and fans are left eager for the final showdown, with Felicia and Brandsta City Släckers emerging as favorite contenders. With their unique styles and engaging performances, this year's Melodifestivalen promises to be one for the ages.
