Agreement Reaches Plenary: Democratic Memory Law Repeal Postponed
In a surprising turn of events, the repeal of the democratic memory law has been removed from the agenda of this Tuesday's plenary session. This decision comes after a strategic agreement between the Popular Party (PP), the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands (PSIB), MÉS per Mallorca, and MÉS per Menorca. Notably, the United We Can (UP) deputy was absent from today's session, signaling a lack of support for the repeal.
The decision to postpone the vote means that it will now be included in next week's plenary session. During this upcoming session, another critical vote will take place concerning the validation of a decree aimed at correcting amendments that the PP inadvertently supported during the simplification law debate.
The Popular Party has pledged not to support the repeal of the memory law in exchange for the opposition's promise not to obstruct the removal of 34 amendments from Vox that were mistakenly approved in prior discussions.
Following the announcement, the PSIB communicated that they would withdraw several questions aimed at Vice President of the Govern Antoni Costa, which were related to the ongoing negotiations concerning the budget. This withdrawal highlights the shifting dynamics within the Balearic political landscape, as parties navigate complex negotiations to address budgetary concerns while maintaining political alliances.
As the situation continues to develop, observers are left to speculate how these agreements will impact future discussions surrounding both the memory law and the broader political context in the Balearic Islands.
