Alba García's Perspective on Cooperation and Security in Spanish Politics
Alba García, the general coordinator of Sumar Mugimendua, has vocalized her skepticism regarding the unity proposal from ERC spokesperson Gabriel Rufián. In an interview with Radio Euskadi reported by Europa Press, García expressed that she finds it difficult to envision a joint photo with Esquerra, especially given their rejection of the labor reform. While she appreciates Rufián's persistence, she emphasizes that conversations about cooperation must delve into serious discussions about country projects, electoral programs, and long-term models for the future.
García remarked, 'It is complicated for me to see myself in a photo with ERC when they did not sign the labor reform. It makes it complex for me to be photographed with someone who voted against it.' She believes that this union is a gamble and feels that both organizations are not in an aligned position at this moment. For Sumar, it is crucial to focus on the broader country project rather than just party names, and they are keen on finding ways to expand their reach.
Reflecting on the year that Imanol Pradales has served as Lehendakari, García described the legislative period as aesthetically significant, noting some shifts in operational methods, yet lacking substantial structural changes. She pointed out that despite numerous announced intentions, the realities in vital areas such as public health, education, and housing remain largely unchanged. 'We observe a significant difference with this government regarding critical issues. There is much flashiness and a lot of announcements, but the reality is that there aren't structural changes,' she added.
Commenting on the Health Pact, García has drawn a clear line in the sand against the privatization of public health services, asserting that public health must remain just that—public. She is critical of the continued trend of privatizing services instead of valuing the demands of professionals in the field and the public service.
