Allegations of Corruption Surface Within PSOE: Yolanda Díaz Calls for Immediate Clarity
Yolanda Díaz, the Second Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, has demanded prompt explanations regarding serious allegations emerging against the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán. Following a report from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, concerns have arisen about potential criminal activity involving Cerdán, including accusations of organization crimes and bribery.
The UCO report, which has caught the attention of judicial authorities, links Cerdán to the management of substantial payments related to alleged fraud with the construction company Acciona. Specifically, it is claimed that Cerdán oversaw dealings involving approximately 650,000 euros tied to bribery and illicit payments to officials, notably concerning former minister José Luis Ábalos and another individual, Koldo García.
Díaz expressed her concern regarding the gravity of the allegations while attending the Forum of the Global Coalition for Social Justice at the International Labour Organization (ILO) conference in Geneva. She emphasized the need for transparency and clarification, stating that the reported activities warranted serious attention and swift action.
The suspicions surrounding Santos Cerdán are largely based on recorded conversations between him and Ábalos, documenting their discussions from 2019 to 2023 about outstanding debts allegedly owed to them. These revelations have sparked a wave of scrutiny within the PSOE, prompting calls for accountability and investigation.
As these developments unfold, the political implications for the PSOE and the Spanish government at large are significant. Díaz’s call for clarity highlights the urgency with which the ruling party must address the allegations to restore public trust and uphold integrity within its ranks.
