Alleged Russian Spy Plot in Germany: Three Arrested for Surveillance Operation
The Federal Prosecutors Office in Germany has initiated charges against three individuals, accused of being spies allegedly commissioned by a Russian intelligence service to surveil a former Ukrainian fighter residing in Germany. The three accused include individuals from different nationalities: a Ukrainian, an Armenian, and a Russian. As per the official announcements, the Armenian suspect reportedly enlisted the help of the two other individuals to carry out the surveillance operation. Officials indicated that on June 19, the alleged spies had intended to lure their target into a café in downtown Frankfurt, ostensibly to gather further information about him and confirm his identity. However, the plans were thwarted when the target, already aware of potential threats, contacted the German police, resulting in the meeting being called off.
The Hesse State Criminal Police Office responded swiftly to the situation, leading to the arrest of the three suspects. They are currently being held in pretrial detention as authorities continue to investigate this disturbing case of potential espionage and targeted violence.
