Alvise Pérez Faces Multiple Criminal Charges Amidst Agricultural Protests
Alvise Pérez, a Member of the European Parliament and leader of the far-right party Se Acabó la Fiesta, is currently embroiled in his sixth criminal case. The accusations stem from his alleged role in inciting public disorder through the messaging platform Telegram during agricultural protests that erupted in February 2024. Notably, Pérez allegedly encouraged demonstrators to hurl gravel and manure at riot police, calling for a concerted effort to block urban traffic and critical logistics hubs, all while taking advantage of police inadequacies to disrupt public order.
The Supreme Court initially dismissed the case due to a lack of evidence linking Pérez directly to the Telegram channel, Canal Alvise. However, a subsequent report by the General Police Information Commissioner confirmed that Pérez indeed controlled the channel, contradicting earlier claims. This finding further cements his involvement in the controversial activities surrounding the protests.
This latest charge adds to the mounting legal troubles faced by Pérez, as he is already grappling with five other criminal cases. One notable case involves allegations of forgery and defamation after he disseminated a falsified PCR test result of Salvador Illa, the president of the Generalitat of Catalonia. Another case pertains to inflammatory communications he posted against the Valencia hate crimes prosecutor, Susana Gisbert.
Furthermore, Pérez is under scrutiny for potential financial crimes, including illegal party financing, fraud, and money laundering. He stands accused of accepting €100,000 for his political campaign under dubious circumstances, and faces other charges related to harassment and revealing secrets concerning former party members who distanced themselves from him after their joint candidacy in the 2024 European elections.
Additionally, he is being investigated following a complaint from José Antonio Landaluce, the mayor of Algeciras, who reported receiving conditional threats from Pérez, further complicating the politician's situation.
Amidst this turmoil, it appears that Alvise Pérez’s political career is in significant decline, as he has failed to secure a seat in recent elections, marking a challenging year for the embattled MEP. His father, Javier Pérez Parralo, expressed disbelief upon discovering his son's contentious role in these incidents, stating, 'My son should be in jail,' indicating the profound impact of his son's actions on his family and the community.
With multiple allegations piling up, Alvise Pérez's case raises critical questions about accountability and the extent to which political leaders can reach the limits of acceptable behavior in the pursuit of their objectives.
