Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz Raises Concerns Over Data Privacy Breach

On Wednesday, Attorney General of the State Álvaro García Ortiz escalated his allegations by submitting an expanded complaint to the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) concerning the unauthorized dissemination of personal data. This complaint is linked to the ongoing Supreme Court investigation regarding his conduct. García Ortiz contends that the Civil Guard's Central Operational Unit (UCO) has grossly overstepped its judicial authority by accessing and reporting on data beyond the timeframe stipulated by the presiding judge, which specifically ranges from March 8 to March 14, 2024.

Legal sources cited by Europa Press reveal that García Ortiz's document, directed towards CGPJ and Supreme Court President Isabel Perelló, elaborates on the exploitation of two phone lines, resulting in an excessive collection of real-time activity data. He points out that one phone line shows continuous activity spanning from March 7, 2024, just before the designated timeframe, while the other line records interactions extending from December 5, 2023, to October 24.

García Ortiz emphasizes that the extracted records amount to a staggering 240,000 entries related to his personal and professional life, containing sensitive information that he argues is irrelevant to the investigation. He believes that this breach not only undermines his privacy but also jeopardizes his safety, leading him to receive threatening calls and emails that have compelled him to change his phone and email accounts.

The Attorney General admonishes the UCO for their overreach and criticizes the actions, or lack thereof, by the presiding instructor, Ángel Hurtado, for not implementing any protective measures for his privacy amidst the ongoing inquiry. He has called upon the CGPJ to take immediate action to rectify the situation.

In response to García Ortiz's significant claims, the CGPJ has launched preliminary actions to investigate the grievances brought forth by both him and his immediate predecessor, Dolores Delgado, regarding the improper dissemination of personal data by the UCO as part of the current investigative procedures undertaken by the Supreme Court.
