Bracing for Extreme Heat: Madrid Prepares for Summer's First Heat Wave
As summer officially unfolds, the Community of Madrid is gearing up for a significant spike in temperatures, with predictions indicating that this weekend could see thermometers soaring to a staggering 40 degrees Celsius. June is shaping up to be a record-breaking month, according to forecasts from Aemet, the State Meteorological Agency.
This Friday, June 27, temperatures are expected to hit a high of 36 degrees Celsius, paving the way for the first heat wave of the season anticipated to hit on Saturday. In response to these rising temperatures, Aemet has issued a yellow alert during the peak hours of the day, particularly from 1 PM to 8 PM, for areas including the metropolitan region, Henares, as well as South Vegas and West locations.
Residents will experience clear skies with some evolving cloud cover possible in the Sierra de Guadarrama during the afternoon. Additionally, the wind will generally remain light and variable, primarily from the east at both the beginning and towards the end of the day.
With temperatures on the rise, central and southern Madrid could feel the heat even more intensely, with highs potentially reaching between 37 to 38 degrees Celsius in the capital. Minimum overnight temperatures are also expected to climb, ranging from 18 to 21 degrees, with the warmest minimums being recorded in Madrid itself.
As the city becomes accustomed to these soaring summer temperatures, it’s crucial for residents to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions to beat the heat, especially as the first heat wave looms large in the upcoming weekend.
