British Citizens Suspected Victims in Sweden Double Shooting: Swedish Police Investigate Tragic Incident

Swedish police are currently investigating a tragic double shooting incident after two bodies were found in a burnt-out car rented by a British citizen. The incident took place in the southern city of Malmö, after the victims, who had crossed the Denmark-Sweden border, were shot on Sunday. The car, a Toyota RAV4 rented from Copenhagen airport, was later set on fire in an industrial area of Malmö. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed as of now. The UK Foreign Office confirmed they are supporting the families of two British men reported missing in Sweden, indicating that the car had been rented by a UK citizen. A Swedish forensic team is working to identify the victims. The Swedish police, led by Kerstin Gossé, are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a black Toyota car in the area where the shooting occurred. Notably, the police are specifically interested in information regarding a black Danish-registered Toyota model RAV4. While the police have not confirmed any links to gang violence, Interpol has been brought into the investigation since the victims had crossed international borders during their journey. Sweden, unfortunately, has been grappling with a rise in gang-related conflicts, particularly concerning arms and drug trafficking, resulting in a high gun crime death rate. Last year marked a concerning rise in shooting deaths, with September 2022 being the deadliest month on record. The capital, Stockholm, notably has a significantly higher gun murder rate than London on a per-capita basis. Authorities are diligently working to solve this tragic incident and bring justice to the victims.
