Businesswoman Arrested in Hydrocarbons Corruption Case Involving PSOE
The Civil Guard has arrested businesswoman Carmen Pano this Monday as part of the infamous Hydrocarbons case. Just days ago, Pano claimed to have delivered 90,000 euros to the PSOE headquarters on behalf of Koldo Víctor de Aldama, the alleged case broker. Alongside Pano, three other individuals have also been taken into custody during an operation initiated by the Civil Guard's UCO.
The investigation has led to several searches at companies located in Madrid, Zaragoza, and Seville. Sources familiar with the investigation have confirmed these details to EFE news agency.
This morning, UCO agents were actively conducting searches at the companies owned by Luis Alberto Escolano, based in Calatayud, Zaragoza. Escolano is identified as a partner and frontman for Víctor de Aldama, who is currently under investigation in the ongoing Hydrocarbons case. Notably, Escolano rented an apartment used by JRG, a woman allegedly connected to former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos, during the period of March 2019 to September 2021.
This operation underscores the ongoing challenges in combating corruption within Spain's political landscape, drawing attention to the complex web of relationships connecting business interests and political entities. As the investigation unfolds, further details are likely to emerge, sparking discussions on transparency and accountability in governance.
