Carla Simón and Oliver Laxe to Compete for Palme d'Or at Cannes

Carla Simón and Oliver Laxe are set to compete for the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 78th Cannes Film Festival with their respective films, 'Romería' and 'Sirat'. This announcement was made on Thursday by Thierry Frémaux, the festival's general delegate.

Carla Simón, a Catalan filmmaker, will present her third film 'Romería', which delves into her family's history, specifically focusing on her parents. The film has been primarily shot in the picturesque city of Vigo in Galicia and its surrounding areas. This marks Simón's debut at Cannes, a noteworthy moment considering her previous works have been showcased at the Berlinale.

On the other hand, Oliver Laxe, a familiar face at Cannes, brings his fourth feature film 'Sirat' into the competition. Frémaux describes the film as a road movie that tells the story of marginalized individuals, highlighting Laxe's continued focus on unique narratives.

As the festival approaches, the anticipation for both films is building, promising to showcase poignant stories that resonate with audiences globally.
