Castilla-La Mancha President Emphasizes Need for Clarity in Catalonia Financing Negotiations

Emiliano García-Page, the President of Castilla-La Mancha, expressed his eagerness to engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. He hopes to calmly discuss his concerns regarding the government's stance on the negotiation of Catalonia's financial quota. During an interview with Tele 5, as reported by Europa Press, García-Page elaborated on the lack of clarity surrounding the pre-agreement document between ERC and the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC), emphasizing that no one from the PSOE has explained its content. The details of the agreement, he noted, have only become public through leaks from separatists, which he finds valid, given that no one has denied them.

García-Page clarified the relationship between the PSC and the PSOE, stating that while the PSC is a sibling party that achieved governance in Catalonia, it does not imply that Ferraz must share all of its positions. He criticized the current political context surrounding Catalonia's financing negotiations, labeling it as 'confusing and embarrassing.' He pointed out that some individuals within the PSOE seem to shy away from open discussions, reflecting potential concerns from the average social democracy voter.

In response to pressures from the Popular Party (PP) aimed at curbing the PSOE deputies elected from Castilla-La Mancha regarding future votes on Catalonia's specific financing, García-Page reiterated that the final candidacies are determined by Ferraz and not by the general secretaries of the PSOE. He remarked that some candidates were appointed without being elected in their provinces, highlighting the disconnection between elected officials and their constituents.
