Catalonia's New Leadership: Alicia Romero Appointed Minister of Economy and Nuria Parlon as Minister of Interior

Alicia Romero, born in Caldes d'Estrac, Barcelona in 1976, has been appointed as the new Minister of Economy and Finance of the Generalitat de Catalunya. As the current spokesperson for the PSC group in the Parliament and a close ally of the newly elected president Salvador Illa, Romero takes on one of the most crucial roles within the regional government. Her prominent position comes at a time when the negotiation of a new regional funding system is urgently needed, a responsibility she will lead on behalf of the Generalitat.

Romero has established herself as a key player in the political arena with an impressive background in law and governance. Holding a law degree from Pompeu Fabra University, she has also completed postgraduate studies in local and urban law at IDEC, alongside earning a Master's degree in public management and governance from ESADE. Through her role as the economic affairs spokesperson for the PSC in the Catalan Parliament, she has been instrumental in shaping the party's approach to economic matters.

Over the years, Romero has been critical in successfully negotiating budget proposals for the Govern, showcasing her acumen and authority as one of the leading voices representing socialist interests in economic discussions.

In addition to Romero's appointment, Nuria Parlon has also been confirmed as the Minister of Interior and Security. This appointment has been corroborated by sources within the Generalitat. Parlon's role is anticipated to be pivotal in driving the transformation of the police force, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing public safety and security within the region.

These appointments represent a significant shift in Catalonia's political landscape, with leaders eager to address pressing economic and security challenges. As Romero navigates the complexities of regional funding and fiscal policy, and Parlon seeks to reform police practices, both ministers will be closely watched as they work to implement their agendas in the coming months.
