Celebrating Italian Cuisine: A Week of Flavor and Tradition in Sweden
From November 18 to 25, 2023, the Embassy of Italy in Stockholm, alongside the Italian Cultural Institute, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Italian Academy of Cuisine, is proud to present The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World. This initiative aims to promote and showcase the rich culture and esteemed food and wine production that Italy has to offer.
This year marks a significant first, as the event extends its reach to encompass a series of 22 restaurants across Sweden. Italian Ambassador to Sweden, Michele Pala, expressed enthusiasm about this expansion, stating that the goal is to engage not just invited guests but to open up the celebration to a broader audience.
The theme for this year's edition is "Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition." The emphasis on a balanced Mediterranean diet highlights not only its health benefits but also serves to promote Italian exports of authentic products. The ambassador noted that for Italians, sharing meals with the right ingredients from the land embodies a cultural significance that transcends mere sustenance.
A spotlight on Sardinia will feature the event "Visioni sarde," showcasing a series of Sardinian short films. Attendees will enjoy a tasting of typical dishes and wines from this beautiful region of Italy. Moreover, the Italian Cultural Institute will host "At the roots of ice cream," where gelato artisan Alessandro Cesari will craft ice cream using locally sourced, zero-kilometer ingredients.
Additionally, the discussion titled "The Mediterranean Diet and Sport" will take place at the Technogym showroom, featuring football champion Albin Ekdahl and sports journalist Siavoush Fallahi, who will explore the critical role of the Mediterranean diet in athletic performance, followed by a reception showcasing Italian products.
In collaboration with Confartigianato, the Italian Chamber of Commerce will host a tasting of traditional Italian products at La Piadineria. The initiative also includes the "Le Radici della Cucina Italiana" project, which will offer a cooking course at Eataly, allowing participants to immerse themselves in traditional Italian culinary techniques.
The Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the Days of Italian Food and Wine at the historic Grand Hotel in Stockholm, featuring a wine tasting event. This will culminate in the awarding of the Marchio Ospitalità Italiana 2025, recognizing outstanding Italian restaurants and pizzerias.
A masterclass titled "A Journey Through the Greatness of Nebbiolo," hosted by I Vini del Piemonte, will explore the renowned wine regions of Langhe and Roero. Finally, Italian Cheese Day organized by Ostrummet Sabis will feature cheese producers from various Italian regions, sharing production secrets that render these cheeses unique worldwide.
The week will also feature a collaborative effort with Italienpodden, a dedicated podcast to all things Italy, producing three episodes focusing on the themes of Italian food and wine culture, the Mediterranean diet, olive oil, and Italian cheeses.
Join us in celebrating the vibrant flavors and rich traditions of Italian cuisine, bringing people together through the universal love of food.
