Ceuta Border Tensions Rise as Over 200 Migrants Attempt Crossing

The State Security Forces in Ceuta have taken measures to intermittently close the Tarajal border separating Spain's Ceuta from Morocco, responding to attempts by over 200 migrants to breach the double fencing in the area. According to police sources, the closure of the customs area was initiated around 11:00 AM to effectively manage the situation as individuals attempted to scale the fence closest to customs.

The group of migrants, comprising a mix of Sub-Saharan Africans and Moroccans, has gathered near a spot known as Finca Berrocal, which is adjacent to the Ceuta border. To address the emerging crisis, the Civil Guard has deployed additional personnel with enhanced security measures, although reports indicate that as of now, none of the individuals have successfully reached the top of the ten-meter high double fence.

On the Moroccan side, the Gendarmerie is actively involved, deploying numerous personnel around the fence to control the influx. The situation escalated as migrants sought alternative routes, including approaching a nearby hill to regroup for a potential mass entry into Ceuta.

In a statement to EFE, the Government Delegation has confirmed that no migrants have successfully crossed into Spanish territory and noted that Moroccan forces are playing a vital role in managing the ongoing situation. As tensions continue, both Spanish and Moroccan authorities are on high alert, working collaboratively to prevent unauthorized crossings and maintain border security.
