CIS Barometer Reveals PSOE's Significant Lead Over PP in Latest Poll

The latest monthly barometer from the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS) shows a notable shift in the political landscape of Spain, assigning the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) a commanding 7-point lead over the People’s Party (PP) in hypothetical general elections. This survey, based on interviews conducted from June 2 to June 7, reveals a growing electoral support for the PSOE, which is estimated to receive 343 votes compared to 273 for the PP. This marks a dramatic change from May, when the gap between the two leading parties was only 27 points.

The PSOE has seen a remarkable increase in voter support of 23 points, while the PP has experienced a decrease of two points. This shift signifies a positive trend for the socialists and a challenging moment for the conservatives.

In this poll, the political party Vox continues to secure its position as the third largest political force in Spain, with an estimated 132 votes, a slight decline of two-tenths compared to previous results. Meanwhile, the far-left party Sumar has also shown improvement, rising by half a point to garner 7 votes. Podemos, however, appears to be struggling, holding steady at 42 votes but with a minor loss of one-tenth.

The timing of the survey coincides with recent news surrounding former socialist member Leire Díez, which likely influenced public perception and voting intention. With these evolving dynamics, the CIS poll sheds light on the ongoing political shifts within Spain, highlighting the PSOE's strengthened position as the electoral landscape continues to change.
