Civil Guard Arrests Individual Following Heated Incident During Royal Visit in Valencia
Civil Guard authorities have reported the arrest of a 41-year-old man in connection with tumultuous events that unfolded during the royal visit to Paiporta, Valencia, on Sunday. This visit was aimed at meeting victims of the recent DANA disaster. The individual has been charged with assault and public disorder, as detailed by Las Provincias and corroborated by sources from Europa Press.
According to reports, the arrested man, a resident of Paiporta, allegedly attacked a vehicle in the convoy of President Pedro Sánchez using a broomstick as he was escorted away from the scene. The police have indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify additional individuals who may have participated in the disturbances, with a focus on local residents.
The Court of Instruction number 3 in Torrent has initiated proceedings regarding the assault, public disorder, and property damage that occurred during the royal visit, which also resulted in injuries to a bodyguard of Queen Letizia. Amidst the chaos, President Sánchez called attention to the need to distinguish between the legitimate frustration of the DANA victims and the organized actions of extreme groups bent on disrupting the event.
Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska confirmed that President Sánchez was indeed struck during these events, leading to his evacuation from the venue. However, neither he nor Mercedes González, the director of the Civil Guard, have provided clarity on the potential involvement of far-right extremist groups in the melee.
As the Civil Guard continues their investigation, the disturbing incidents have raised questions regarding public safety and the nature of protests related to humanitarian crises in Spain.
