Civil Guard Arrests Key Figure in Major Hydrocarbon Fraud Case

The Civil Guard has apprehended Victor de Aldama, a pivotal figure in the Koldo case, for his alleged role in a sophisticated network dedicated to hydrocarbon fraud that is believed to have defrauded the Treasury of a staggering 182 million euros over a two-year period. Sources close to the investigation informed EFE that Aldama, who previously served as president of the Zamora Football Club, acted as a mediator in the illicit hydrocarbon scheme.

This extensive operation, conducted by agents from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard alongside the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, launched this morning across various provinces, including Madrid, Salamanca, and Cáceres. As part of the crackdown, 14 individuals have been arrested to date, with Aldama being a prominent figure among them. Additionally, 11 searches have been executed at both residential and corporate locations linked to the suspects.

Aldama is also under scrutiny in relation to another investigation concerning irregularities tied to the procurement of face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. This case, dubbed the Koldo case, has highlighted significant concerns around integrity in public procurement and has drawn attention to the potential malpractices that surfaced during the health crisis.

The ramifications of both investigations are expected to be significant, with authorities pledging to pursue all responsible parties and to recover the lost funds to the state. As the investigation unfolds, the Civil Guard continues to emphasize its commitment to combating corruption and fraud within the public sector.
