Civil Guard Investigates Serious Incident of Gender Violence in Cuéllar
Since early Thursday, the Civil Guard has been actively searching for a man who allegedly set a car on fire in Cuéllar, Segovia, with his ex-partner trapped inside. The victim, a 50-year-old woman, has sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized. Government sources reported to EFE that authorities are treating the incident as a potential case of gender violence, given the woman’s previous registration in the VioGén system, although her status was listed as inactive at the time of the incident.
The alarming event unfolded at approximately 7:38 AM in a parking lot of the Prado Vega industrial estate, coinciding with a bullfighting event as part of local festivities. Emergency services received multiple calls reporting a vehicle fire with a woman found unconscious within. In response, emergency services, including Segovia firefighters, the Civil Guard's Command Operations Support, and health emergency teams, were promptly dispatched.
A courageous witness reportedly rescued the woman from the flames. Upon the arrival of the Civil Guard, she was conscious and informed the officers that her ex-partner had ignited the car with her inside. After her ordeal, she was airlifted to La Paz hospital in Madrid, where her condition remains critical but stable.
Authorities confirmed that the alleged aggressor is actively being sought for arrest by the Civil Guard. Their investigation has revealed a prior romantic relationship between the victim and the suspected perpetrator, with documented incidents in the VioGén system dating back to 2020.
As investigations continue, the Civil Guard urges anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding gender violence, prompting discussions on the importance of reporting and addressing such cases to prevent further tragedies.
