Civil Guard Investigates Soria City Council for Alleged Corruption and Money Laundering
Early Wednesday morning, agents from the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard launched a search operation at the Soria City Council, which is currently governed by the Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). This operation forms part of a broader judicial investigation probing alleged crimes against public administration, including the establishment of a criminal organization and money laundering. Accompanied by other searches and arrests, the investigation is being pursued at the request of the Provincial Public Prosecutor's Office and is being managed under secrecy by the Soria Command of the Civil Guard’s Organic Unit of the Judicial Police.
According to reports from the Government Subdelegation in Soria, the agents specifically focused their inquiry on the Commerce area of the city council. The previous mayor, Carlos Martínez, who is also the Secretary General of the PSOE in Castilla y León, held office until last April. In response to the unfolding situation, the Soria City Council, currently led by Mayor Javier Antón, has publicly committed to full cooperation with the judicial authorities and the agents involved in the investigations.
In an official statement, the Soria City Council emphasized that it is facilitating all required documentation and information necessary for these proceedings. However, as the investigation is still in the judicial phase and subject to secrecy, the City Council indicated that it presently lacks adequate details regarding the extent and nature of the case's findings. Thus, it is crucial for stakeholders to await further developments and any formal announcements that may emerge.
The City Council’s statement further called for prudence, responsibility, and respect for legal protocols, urging against any speculative or premature conclusions about the ongoing investigation. They reiterated their commitment to transparency and adherence to the law, emphasizing their intent to cooperate fully with the Justice Administration as the investigation continues to unfold.
