Collapse at Rome's Torre dei Conti Leaves Worker in Critical Condition
A 64-year-old man is currently in serious condition at a hospital after being struck by falling debris during an incident at Rome’s Torre dei Conti on Monday, sources report. The man was part of a team engaged in restoration work on the medieval fortified tower, located in close proximity to the iconic Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
During the incident, the man, along with two other workers who sustained minor injuries, was extricated from the rubble. Another worker, however, remained trapped under the debris at the time of this report, highlighting the urgency and seriousness of the situation.
Emergency responders acted swiftly, with firefighters deploying a ladder truck to rescue three workers who were stranded on scaffolding at the site. Thankfully, those firefighters were unharmed, despite experiencing a secondary incident where another section of masonry collapsed during their rescue efforts.
This unfortunate event underscores the inherent dangers associated with construction and restoration work on historical structures, and it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety protocols in the preservation of Rome’s rich heritage.
