Cupra Launches Terramar: A New Era for Electrified SUVs
Cupra, a member of the Volkswagen Group, is expanding its presence in the rapidly growing SUV market with the introduction of its new model, the Terramar. This marks the brand’s first foray into electrified hybrid SUVs, showcasing Cupra's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
The Terramar is equipped with cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology, boasting an electric range of over 100 km. This makes it a potent vehicle, delivering an impressive 272 horsepower (200 kW). Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra, emphasizes that the Terramar redefines the SUV experience in terms of performance, feel, and design.
Aesthetically, the Terramar stands out with its striking shark-nosed front and elongated hood, creating a powerful visual appeal. The vehicle features a new light signature marked by triangular headlights, enhancing its sporty and modern look. Inside, the driver-centric interior aims to evoke emotions, incorporating a 12.9-inch infotainment system along with a suite of connected services, facilitated by Cupra Connect. This technology not only enriches the driving experience but also strives for user-friendliness.
In line with modern values, sustainability is a cornerstone of the Terramar’s design. The sport seats are upholstered with materials sourced from 100 percent recycled SEAQUAL YARN and Dinamica, which contains at least 73 percent recycled polyester, or leather that has undergone a plant-based tanning process. This focus on sustainable practices has fortified Cupra's position in the market, allowing it to achieve significant growth. Since its inception in 2018, Cupra has delivered around 700,000 vehicles, marking it as one of the fastest-growing brands in the automotive industry.
The Terramar further reinforces Cupra's evolution as a confident and mature brand, without losing its authenticity. Griffiths stated that the combination of innovative design, functionality, sustainability, performance, and attitude positions the Terramar as a strong contender for the prestigious Car of the Year 2025 award, joining its predecessors – Formentor and Born, which were finalists in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Currently available in Sweden, the Terramar offers five different powertrain options, including TSI, eTSI mild hybrid, and the new generation plug-in hybrid eHybrid. The latter provides up to 272 horsepower with a range of over 100 km on electric power alone and supports fast charging capabilities of up to 50 kW DC. The versatility in powertrains ensures that potential buyers have choices that align with their driving preferences and environmental considerations.
With the launch of the Terramar, Cupra not only aims to capture a greater share of the electrified SUV market but also reinforces its identity as a brand that values performance, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology.
