Cupra Terramar: The Future of Sustainable SUVs Unveiled

Cupra, a member of the Volkswagen Group, continues its growth trajectory with the introduction of the new Terramar. This SUV exemplifies Cupra's strategic positioning within the rapidly expanding car segment in Europe. The Terramar marks a significant milestone as the company's first electrified hybrid SUV, incorporating an advanced plug-in hybrid technology that boasts an electric range exceeding 100 kilometers. This impressive feature not only enhances its efficiency but also boosts the car's performance, delivering an output of up to 272 horsepower (200 kW).

According to Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra, the Terramar redefines what an SUV can offer in terms of driving experience, performance, and aesthetic appeal.

Design that Evokes Emotions

Terramar's design is among its standout features, showcasing a bold shark-nosed front and an elongated hood that leave a striking visual impression. Accompanied by a new light signature that features triangular headlights, the vehicle radiates a sporty and contemporary vibe. The interior is meticulously crafted with a driver-oriented focus aimed at evoking emotions. It features a sizable 12.9-inch infotainment system, providing a suite of connected services through Cupra Connect, enhancing both the driving experience and user-friendliness.

Sustainability is also a fundamental aspect of the Terramar's design. The sport seats are wrapped in materials made from 100% recycled SEAQUAL YARN, along with Dinamica featuring at least 73% recycled polyester, or leather processed using a plant-based method. This emphasis on sustainability and innovation significantly bolsters Cupra's market standing, thereby contributing to the company's ongoing volume journey. Since its inception in 2018, Cupra has emerged as one of the fastest-growing brands in the automotive industry, having sold approximately 700,000 vehicles.

A Spectrum of Powertrains

The Terramar offers a versatile lineup with five different powertrains and three distinctive technologies, including TSI, eTSI mild hybrid, and the new-generation plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) option. This latest variant produces an impressive output of up to 272 horsepower (200 kW) while maintaining an allelectric range of over 100 kilometers. Additionally, it supports rapid charging capabilities up to 50 kW DC, ensuring convenience alongside performance. Notably, the plug-in hybrid option includes an engine that generates 204 horsepower.

Wayne Griffiths emphasizes that the Terramar represents a pivotal moment for Cupra, showcasing the brand's maturity and confidence in its direction while ensuring it remains authentic to its roots. The adept combination of design, functionality, sustainable practices, and outstanding performance has earned the Cupra Terramar a spot as a finalist for the Car of the Year 2025, following in the footsteps of its predecessors, the Formentor and Born, both finalists in 2021 and 2022.

The Terramar is currently available in Sweden, marking an exciting new chapter for both Cupra and SUV enthusiasts, setting a benchmark for the future of sustainable vehicles in the expanding automotive landscape.
