Delays Hit Atocha Station as Signaling Issues Disrupt Multiple Train Lines
A significant signaling issue at Atocha station in Madrid has caused disruptions affecting several Cercanías lines and Medium Distance trains. The incident was first reported at 2:55 AM on Wednesday, according to statements from Adif (the Spanish railway infrastructure manager) and Renfe (the national railway operator).
The disruptions affect six Cercanías lines: C3, C4, C4a, C4b, C7, and C10. In addition, Medium Distance trains that either depart from or pass through Atocha are also impacted. As of now, Adif has not provided a specific timeline for when the problems will be resolved, although technicians are actively working to fix the issue.
Due to the ongoing incident, modifications to train routes have been implemented. Specifically, C4 line trains coming from Parla will only be operating up to Villaverde Alto. Meanwhile, those on the C4a line, which usually runs from Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes, will terminate at Chamartín. Furthermore, trains from Colmenar Viejo on the C4b line will reach Atocha Cercanías, and rerouting for the C7 trains will take them via O'Donnell.
Travelers should remain vigilant and check for updates regarding their journeys as the situation evolves. Adif and Renfe encourage passengers to stay informed about potential delays and altered routes as they work through the technical difficulties at one of the busiest railway stations in Spain.
