Denmark Rallies in Support of Greenland Amid US Expansionist Threats
Thousands of people are demonstrating in Copenhagen and other cities across Denmark in solidarity with Greenland, voicing their opposition to US President Donald Trump's expansionist ambitions concerning the territory. The march, which commenced at city hall, is set to conclude at the US embassy, reflecting the growing tensions surrounding Greenland’s fate.
As reported by the Danish newspaper Politiken, organizers claim that over 15,000 participants have gathered for the protests. However, police have yet to provide an official estimate of the crowd. Protesters are making their voices heard with slogans such as "Hands off Greenland" and "Yankee go home," while chanting, "Greenland is not for sale."
Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has been at the center of recent geopolitical disputes, with the United States voicing ambitions to take control of the island. President Trump has not dismissed the possibility of using force, escalating fears of a hostile takeover. In response to this looming threat, several dozen soldiers from various European nations have recently arrived in Greenland, officially cited as part of an exploratory mission, but many perceive it as a move to deter potential US aggression.
The autonomous government of Greenland has consistently expressed its unwillingness to be annexed by the United States—a sentiment echoed by a significant majority of Greenlanders. As the situation continues to develop, many observers are questioning whether Trump's interest in Greenland might be connected to broader, more deceptive motivations in international politics.
A parallel demonstration is also scheduled to take place at around 7 PM Italian time in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, amplifying the unity among the people in defense of their land.
