Discounts for Young Travelers: Verano Joven Launches This Week

Starting this Wednesday, young individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 can enroll in the Verano Joven program offered by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. This initiative promises discounts of up to 90% on train and bus travel across Spain and Europe from July 1 to September 30.

To participate, applicants need to register on the Ministry's website at https://veranojoventransportes.gob.es using their DNI or NIE to obtain the necessary codes for purchasing discounted tickets from carrier websites. The program has a budget of 120 million euros, which is 10 million less than the previous year's edition, and targets individuals born between January 1, 1995, and December 31, 2007, who are either Spanish nationals or legally residing foreigners in Spain.

The discounts available mirror those from previous years, allowing for reductions of up to 90% on one-way or round-trip tickets on medium-distance rail services provided by Renfe Viajeros, as well as on regular bus services governed by the General State Administration. Additionally, travelers can benefit from a 50% discount on Avant rail services, which also falls under the Public Service Obligations.

For commercial rail services, there will be a 50% discount on one-way or round-trip tickets capped at a maximum reduction of 30 euros per journey. A special opportunity for Interrail pass users is included as well, with a 50% discount on Interrail passes purchased through the Renfe Viajeros website. These passes allow for travel by train throughout 33 European countries or by boat between Italy and Greece.

The Verano Joven initiative aims not only to lessen dependency on private vehicles—thereby reducing emissions and accidents—but also to enhance access to public transportation for young people, encouraging them to become regular travelers. The program seeks to promote the personal development of youths by providing chances to explore new places and cultures, foster social connections, and stimulate national tourism and cultural sectors.

For the vibrant youth of Spain and Europe, this is an opportunity to expand horizons and make the most of the summer with significant savings on travel. Don't miss out—sign up beginning this Wednesday!
