Easter Weather Update: A Mixture of Stability and Uncertainty Ahead
As Easter approaches, anticipation is in the air, but so are uncertainties regarding the weather forecasts. On Holy Wednesday, many are looking up to the skies, with both hopes and doubts prevailing about the upcoming holiday segment, particularly Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the latest report brings some reassuring news: Holy Thursday is expected to be generally stable, accompanied by a notable rise in temperatures, especially in the interior regions of the northwest and southeast parts of the country. However, the pleasant weather may be short-lived.
A significant concern for millions—travelers, curious onlookers, and participants in processions alike—is that precipitation is projected to sweep across vast areas of the Peninsula shortly thereafter. The Mediterranean coast and the archipelagos might find themselves as the only areas spared from the rain on Saturday. AEMET's latest models indicate that, starting Friday, a series of weather fronts will move in from Galicia, bringing with them persistent and locally heavy rainfall that will gradually spread towards the eastern and southern regions.
In this context, temperatures will continue to rise on Friday, albeit with a notable exception for the western areas of the peninsula. These regions are likely to experience a drop in temperature as rain moves in. Furthermore, this cooling trend is expected to affect the entire Iberian Peninsula by Saturday, with forecasts suggesting a decline in the snow line to levels between 900 and 1200 meters.
As Easter draws closer, the weather remains a central topic of conversation, with participants hoping that the forecasts improve for a drier, sunlit celebration. The unpredictability of spring weather adds to the excitement, but also the tension, as many prepare for one of the most significant times in the Christian calendar.
