Elections Postponed in Kursk Region Amid Ongoing Conflict
The Russian Central Election Commission (TsIK) announced on August 21 that it has decided to postpone local elections scheduled for September in seven districts of the Kursk region. This decision comes as parts of the region have been under the control of Ukrainian armed forces since early August. In an official statement shared on Telegram, the TsIK emphasized that preparations and the eventual holding of elections would only resume when the safety of voters can be fully guaranteed. The situation in the Kursk region has been dire, with the latest reports indicating that 31 people have lost their lives and 143 have been injured since the onset of hostilities involving Ukrainian forces. This postponement highlights the ongoing instability in the region and raises questions about the future of governance in areas affected by the conflict.
