Emergency Landing in Antalya: Russian Plane Catches Fire After Arrival

A Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, operated by Azimuth Airlines, was involved in a fire incident shortly after landing at Antalya Airport in southern Turkey on Sunday, November 24. The plane, carrying a total of 95 individuals, which includes 89 passengers and six crew members, made its way from Sochi before alarming airport authorities with an emergency call at 9:34 PM local time.

The Turkish transportation ministry confirmed that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the aircraft. Remarkably, no injuries were reported following the incident. Eyewitness accounts and a video released by the aviation news outlet Airport Haber revealed the severity of the situation, showing flames erupting from the left side of the aircraft as emergency services swiftly worked to extinguish the fire.

Using an emergency slide, passengers hurriedly exited the plane, some appearing to carry their belongings as they fled from the troubled aircraft. In the aftermath, the transportation ministry stated that efforts were in motion to remove the plane from the runway, which temporarily halted arrivals at the airport. However, departures were able to continue from a nearby military-operated runway.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities working diligently to investigate the matter further. The quick response of both airport and emergency services helped ensure that the situation did not escalate, allowing for a safe evacuation.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers involved in air travel, emphasizing the importance of quick emergency responses.
