Emergency Level 1 Declared in Almonaster la Real Amid Flood Risks
A Level 1 emergency has been activated in Cueva de la Mora, a district of Almonaster la Real in Huelva, due to significant risks of flooding. Authorities have moved swiftly to evacuate 120 residents from the area, particularly those living within one kilometer of the Monte Félix Toril reservoir, which has developed fissures due to the immense pressure from accumulated rainfall. The region has experienced recent heavy rains, with reports indicating over 65 liters per square meter in just a short period, raising alarms over a potential dam rupture.
The Civil Guard has participated in notifying residents about the urgent need to evacuate their homes. Relocation efforts have directed displaced individuals to the multipurpose building Blas Infante in Almonaster, while local officials are working to provide accommodations in nearby hotels and rural houses.
In addition to the dam threat, the recent storms have caused multiple incidents across the province. In Almonaster, the road HU7104 remains closed between kilometers 8 and 9 due to flood-related issues. At the San Blas Institute in Aracena, flooding around the school's perimeter has created access difficulties; however, classes have continued normally after quick resolution of the immediate challenges.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, have also been mobilized to tackle situations involving fallen trees and landslides in areas such as Lepe, Castaño del Robledo, and Lucena del Puerto. Parts of several rural roads in Alosno are rendered unusable due to overflowing banks and damage to local infrastructure.
The Civil Protection service and the Emergency Agency of Andalucía (EMA) are coordinating response efforts in the region. Technical teams with drones and specialized personnel are being deployed to monitor conditions actively and prevent further incidents.
As the situation evolves, orange alerts for heavy rains remain in effect in Huelva and Sevilla, alongside yellow warnings for storms in Cádiz and across the Andalusian plains. Officials advise residents to remain vigilant and heed safety guidelines as they navigate the ongoing weather challenges.
