Escalating Tensions: Israel Strikes Yemen's Sanaa Amid Ongoing Conflict

The Israeli army has officially announced airstrikes on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, targeting the international airport and several infrastructures controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia. This militia has been embroiled in a brutal civil war with the Yemeni central government since 2011, maintaining control over much of the country's densely populated regions.

Israeli officials claim that the Sanaa airport serves as a vital transit point for the Houthis to transport weapons and militants. The military reported successful hits on multiple power plants and a cement factory located at the airport, where an evacuation order had been issued prior to the strikes. Despite the scale of destruction, which included several damaged civilian aircraft, no injuries have been reported so far.

The conflict escalated further when a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis struck near the main terminal of Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport on Sunday morning, injuring six individuals. This prompted a swift retaliatory strike by Israel on the port city of Hodeidah the following day, resulting in more than thirty injuries and reports of casualties, with sources from Agence France-Presse indicating at least four fatalities.

In defense of their actions, the Houthis argue that their operations against Israel are in solidarity with Hamas's efforts in Gaza, with both groups receiving backing from Iran. Over the recent months, Houthi territories have faced continued bombardment from Israel, the United States, and the United Kingdom as the conflict shows no signs of abating.
