EU to Provide Financial Support for Farmers Affected by Middle East Crisis
The European Commission has committed to providing a substantial financial support package to farmers impacted by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. This announcement was made by EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen during a press conference that introduced the EU fertilizer plan.
"This is our commitment and we will present it in June together with the budget proposal," Hansen stated, highlighting the urgency of the situation and the need to assist affected farmers promptly.
In addition to the financial support, the Commission revealed plans to immediately strengthen the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) crisis reserve. This adjustment is designed to ensure that support reaches farms swiftly without having to navigate through the national plans of member states, thereby streamlining the assistance process.
Hansen elaborated on the dynamics of the CAP crisis reserve, stating that support would be accessible to farms quickly in the face of the current challenges.
The adoption of the 2027 budget proposal is currently set for June 10, though officials have indicated that this date remains tentative and could change based on various factors.
This initiative highlights the European Union's dedication to the agricultural sector and its readiness to respond to crises that affect food security and farmers' livelihoods in member states.
