European Leaders Urge Immediate Peace Talks in the Middle East

The leaders of Britain, Germany, and France have united in a call for deescalation and regional stability in the Middle East. In a joint statement, made on August 12, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the importance of not jeopardizing the opportunity to agree on a ceasefire and secure the release of hostages in Gaza. They welcomed both U.S. and regional calls for the immediate resumption of negotiations between Israel and Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist organization by both the United States and the European Union. The leaders made it clear that there can be no further delay in these critical negotiations, emphasizing the necessity of dialogue to restore peace in the region.
