Evacuations in Belgorod as Ukrainian Forces Advance
Authorities in Russia are taking significant measures to protect residents in the southwestern Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced on Telegram on August 12 that parts of the Krasnoyaruzh district are being evacuated due to increased military activity from Ukrainian forces in the vicinity. This decision marks a critical response to the situation, as Ukrainian troops have reportedly penetrated as far as 30 kilometers into Russian territory, signifying the most notable incursion since the conflict began in February 2022. The evacuation is aimed at ensuring the safety of the local populace amid escalating tensions and military engagement in the region.
