Explosion Rocks Tel Aviv: Terror Groups Claim Responsibility
Emergency responders, including ambulance paramedics and police, rushed to the scene on Sunday evening following reports of an explosion in southeastern Tel Aviv, an area that has experienced heightened tensions in recent months. According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz and confirmed by police and the Shin Bet intelligence agency, the militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad have officially claimed responsibility for the incident.
The explosion resulted in the death of a man who was reportedly carrying explosives in a backpack, which detonated accidentally. In addition, a passerby suffered injuries from the blast.
Authorities, including police and Shin Bet, are treating this event as an attempted act of terror. In a statement issued by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, they warned that further suicide attacks against Israel are planned as long as what they describe as 'occupiers' continue their practices of violence and targeted killings. The explosion occurred on Levi Street, close to a local synagogue, raising concerns over the targeted nature of the attack.
As of now, the deceased individual has not been definitively identified, and investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the incident and potential threats in the region. This attack signifies the ongoing volatility in the area, as both sides engage in a cycle of violence that continues to affect civilians caught in the crossfire.
