Explosions Near Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen Prompt Investigation
On October 2, Danish police confirmed that they are investigating two explosions that occurred near the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen during the night. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, according to police spokesman Jakob Hansen, who addressed reporters regarding the incident. The blasts unfolded in close proximity to the embassy, raising concerns, but authorities are still determining whether there is a direct connection between the explosions and the embassy's location.
In a statement on the social media platform X, Hansen noted, "No one was wounded, and we are carrying out a preliminary investigation at the scene." The Israeli ambassador to Denmark, David Akov, expressed his shock over the incident, emphasizing, "We have full confidence in the Danish authorities and the police in their investigation."
The Israeli embassy is part of a cluster of foreign missions located in the upscale suburb of Hellerup, located to the north of Copenhagen. This includes embassies from Iran, Thailand, Turkey, and Romania, among others. The explosions come at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, notably marked by Iran launching a barrage of missiles toward Israeli territory, to which Israel has vowed to respond.
As the Danish authorities continue their investigation, the situation remains dynamic, and updates are awaited on whether any arrests will be made or if further security measures will be implemented.
