Explosive Attack in Montenegro Leaves Two Dead in Suspected Mafia Retaliation

A tragic incident rocked the town of Cetinje in Montenegro on June 20, resulting in two casualties and three injuries. The Montenegrin police confirmed that Petar Kaluđerovic and Dragan Roganovic, both identified as members of organized criminal groups, lost their lives in an explosive attack. The attackers strategically placed an improvised explosive device high in a tree, targeting the victims who were entering a sports center. While Kaluđerovic tragically died at the scene, Roganovic passed away in the hospital later. Among the injured were Tanasije Taso Jovanovic, Mihajlo Borozan, who were with the deceased men, and a passerby Desanka Vujovic. Fortunately, the injured individuals received prompt medical attention and were reported to be out of danger after treatment. Deputy Lazar Scepanovic revealed that the police believed the attack was carried out as retaliation by a rival criminal group. State prosecutor Danka Ivanovic Deric confirmed that evidence was collected at the scene, and an investigation was underway with the assistance of forensic experts and explosives specialists. The unfortunate incident shed light on the ongoing battle against organized crime in the region, with authorities vowing to combat such criminal activities. The police had previous intelligence indicating the potential for such an attack, emphasizing the challenges in tackling organized crime. Notably, the two deceased individuals had prior run-ins with the law, with Kaluđerovic previously arrested in connection with illegal possession of weapons. The history of violence in the region dates back to gang conflicts that erupted in 2014 following the disappearance of a significant amount of cocaine, leading to a series of retaliatory attacks and casualties. The region has witnessed a total of 193 murders in mafia clashes since 2012, highlighting the severity of the situation. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by organized crime and the continuous efforts required to maintain law and order in the face of such threats.
