Federal Judge Orders Release of 5-Year-Old Boy Taken by ICE During Arrest

On Saturday, a federal judge in Texas mandated the release of Liam Conejo Ramos, the five-year-old boy who was detained by ICE agents during his father’s arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the previous week. This operation, which garnered international attention, involved ICE agents using Ramos as a means to gain entry into his home. Dressed in a blue hat adorned with ears and carrying a Spider-Man backpack, the young boy was instructed to knock on his own front door. This tactic was reportedly employed to identify if anyone else was present in the residence for potential arrest. The judge also ordered the release of Liam’s father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias, an Ecuadorian national. Both father and son had been taken to a migrant detention center located near San Antonio, Texas, over 2000 kilometers away from their home. In his ruling, the judge emphasized the need for more humane approaches compared to the practices enforced during the administration of former President Donald Trump. The order stated that both Liam and his father must be released by the upcoming Tuesday, marking a significant victory for advocates calling for humane treatment of immigrants.
