Feijóo Critiques Sánchez as PP Emphasizes a Forward-Looking Vision for Spain

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the leader of the Popular Party (PP), has launched a fierce critique against Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), accusing them of ineffectively focusing on judicial corruption issues and reviving historical controversies surrounding Franco. Speaking before the National Executive Committee of the PP, Feijóo highlighted the importance of looking toward the future instead of dwelling on the past.

Feijóo stated that Sánchez's approach to governance is out of date, likening it to an attempt to resurrect Franco, saying, "They go to Spain with Franco because they are already as much a thing of the past as he is; we are for a Spain without Sánchez which is a Spain with a future." This commentary came in response to Sánchez's announcement of a series of events planned for 2025 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Franco's death, under the banner 'Spain in freedom.'

The PP leader emphasized the party's commitment to progress, contrasting it with what he described as the PSOE's backward-looking agenda. "In the face of a government that can only look back because it knows it is already part of the past for this country, the PP is moving forward and toward the future," he asserted.

Feijóo depicted the current government as engaging in nostalgia and confrontation rather than constructive governance. "They can dig up Franco a hundred times, and they can act like nostalgists of the confrontation between Spaniards, but that will not stop the rest from wanting to build a new government and a future together," he noted.

In his address, Feijóo articulated a vision for Spain that is inclusive and hopeful, contrasting sharply with the climate of despair he associates with the Sánchez administration. He articulated his desire for a Spain characterized by unity, principles, and the pursuit of equality and freedom. "The majority of Spaniards have already placed their hope in Spain without Sánchez," he said, laying out his vision of a nation devoid of division, lies, and selfishness, and instead filled with solidarity and full freedom.

The remarks align with the PP's broader strategy to position itself as a viable alternative to the PSOE ahead of upcoming elections, signaling a clear message that resonates with the electorate’s desire for political change and a positive future.
