Feijóo Launches Scathing Attack on Sánchez and Coalition Partners in Parliament
In a fiery session that left little room for diplomacy, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the Popular Party (PP), unleashed a barrage of criticism against Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and several coalition partners during a parliamentary debate. In an assertive tone, Feijóo accused Sánchez of being a 'destroyed politician' who has orchestrated a 'slaughtered lamb act' to deflect attention from his perceived failures.
Feijóo's rhetoric was laced with sarcasm as he emphasized Sánchez's inability to control crucial issues while claiming, 'Poor man, what bad luck he has had.' The opposition leader went further, alleging that Sánchez has perpetuated lies that undermine both the politics of the nation and the integrity of his government. He pointed to a legacy of corruption as the crux of Sánchez's failures, contending that the current government was born out of questionable transactions, with allegations of rigged primaries and a 'bought' motion of censure.
Feijóo demanded accountability from Sánchez, insisting that if he is earnest about tackling corruption, he should confess to what he knows, assist in recovering misappropriated funds, and call for new elections. He criticized Sánchez's government for a lack of swift actions against corruption, recalling that it took 16 months to expel former member Ábalos, and he assailed the administration's minimal response to ongoing scandals.
Moreover, Feijóo did not shy away from targeting coalition allies of Sánchez, though notably, he refrained from criticizing Junts, likely recognizing their pivotal political role. He provocatively questioned if progressive feminists would respond vigorously to accusations of harassment within the government, and challenged members of coalitions like EH Bildu and Sumar for their stances in light of recent controversies.
In a pointed remark directed at the PNV, Feijóo questioned the integrity behind their previous voting choices, signaling disapproval of their current coalition dynamics. He underscored the 'moral purge' at stake, clarifying his position firmly in favor of what he defines as decency in governance.
While presenting a document with questions aimed at Sánchez, Feijóo also interjected a not-so-subtle message to Congress President Francina Armengol, thus broadening the scope of his critique beyond just the Prime Minister. As the session drew to a close, the air was thick with tension, and opposition leaders appeared steadfastly united in their stance against the current administration.
