Ferry SAONISOS Crashes into Folegandros Harbor: Five Injured in the Accident
A total of five people on board the ferry SAONISOS sustained minor injuries after the vessel collided with the harbor of Folegandros Island during the docking procedure, which was reportedly due to strong winds in the area. The Hellenic Coast Guard reported that among the injured were three crew members and two passengers, who were promptly transported to the medical clinic on Folegandros for treatment. Following the incident, the decision was made to cancel the departure of the ship as a precautionary measure, citing safety concerns. In order to assess the extent of the damage caused by the collision, a diver will be dispatched to inspect the hull of the vessel. The ferry was carrying a total of 24 passengers, 29 crew members, and 7 cars on board at the time of the accident. The ship's intended route was set to traverse through various Cyclades islands, including Syros, Paros, Naxos, Ios, Sikinos, Folegandros, Thirasia, Thira, and Anafi. Authorities and maritime officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the cause and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
