Flights Diversions at Olbia Airport Due to Nearby Fire
On Thursday afternoon, numerous flights scheduled to land at Olbia Airport in Sardinia were diverted to alternative airports following a significant fire outbreak. The fire ignited near the state road that links Olbia and Sassari, generating thick smoke that hampered visibility for incoming flights.
As a result, ten incoming flights were redirected to various airports, including Cagliari, Alghero, Rome Fiumicino, and Figari in Corsica. In addition to the diverted flights, several others experienced delays and cancellations. Firefighting teams are actively working to control the situation as efforts continue to mitigate the impact of the blaze.
Olbia Airport is a crucial gateway for the famous Costa Smeralda tourist region, making the situation especially concerning for travelers and holidaymakers heading to one of Italy's most popular destinations.
