Former European Parliament Vice President Detained in Hebron
Luisa Morgantini, an 84-year-old former vice president of the European Parliament and a renowned Italian activist, was apprehended by Israeli police in the Tuba area south of Hebron. The incident occurred when she inadvertently entered a military zone, as confirmed by the Italian foreign ministry on Thursday.
Accompanying her was journalist Roberto Bongiorni from Il Sole 24ore, who was also stopped by the police.
Both Morgantini and Bongiorni were subsequently taken to a police station located in the Kiryat Arba settlement. Reports indicate that they are expected to be released soon, aided by the intervention of the Italian embassy in Tel Aviv and the Consulate in Jerusalem.
