Former Intelligence Chief Set to Become Dutch Prime Minister in Right-Wing Coalition Government
According to a report by public broadcaster NOS, Dick Schoof, a top justice ministry official and former intelligence chief, is expected to be nominated as the new Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Schoof, who previously served as the national counterterrorism coordinator and director of intelligence and immigration services, will lead a government comprising political appointees and experts. This move comes after the far-right Freedom Party PVV, led by Geert Wilders, finished first in parliamentary elections but fell short of a majority. The coalition government, made up of the PVV, VVD, BBB, and NSC parties, has agreed on policies related to asylum seekers, immigration, natural gas production, and environmental regulations. If confirmed, Schoof will oversee the selection of new ministers and state secretaries in preparation for announcing a full cabinet before the summer recess in July. Schoof, a former member of the PvdA Labour party, is set to take on the role amidst various significant policy changes and collaborations within the right-wing coalition government.
