Former Spanish Politician Links Iranian Regime to Assassination Attempt

Alejo Vidal Quadras, a former leader of the People's Party (PP) and co-founder of Vox, has reiterated his suspicions that the Iranian regime is behind the assassination attempt he suffered on November 9, 2023. The attack occurred near his home in Madrid, where he was shot in the face by an assailant who subsequently fled the scene.

In a highly anticipated court appearance before National Court judge Santiago Pedraz, Vidal Quadras provided testimony and evidence linking the Iranian government to the attack. His statement comes amid a robust police operation that has already led to the arrest of eight individuals, including the suspected shooter who was apprehended in Haarlem, Netherlands, while allegedly preparing to carry out another similar strike.

Vidal Quadras detailed to the judge the activities he undertook during his time in the European Parliament, which he claims put him at odds with the Iranian regime, particularly his support for the Iranian resistance. The judge is in possession of documentation revealing Vidal Quadras's designation as sanctioned by Iran, further complicating the political implications of this case.

As law enforcement continues its investigation, the situation remains tense and the potential ramifications for diplomatic relations with Iran could be significant. The case not only highlights the dangers faced by political figures who oppose authoritarian regimes but also raises questions about international security and the reach of foreign governments into domestic affairs.
