Former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos Linked to Alleged Corruption Scheme
The Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard has uncovered indications that link former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos to the awarding of public contracts in exchange for kickbacks, according to a report by Cadena SER. The UCO submitted a detailed report to the Supreme Court on June 5 that outlines the alleged connections of Ábalos, based on an analysis of various contracts and intercepted audio recordings from Koldo García, a former advisor to Ábalos.
The evidence allegedly suggests that improper awards may have occurred due to the potentially illegal actions of the former minister, which could have resulted in financial benefits for him. This development follows a thorough inspection of Ábalos' residence in Valencia, ordered by Supreme Court Judge Leopoldo Puente. During the nearly nine-hour search, investigators seized computer devices and documents that will now be examined as part of the inquiry.
Ábalos, the former secretary of the Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), expressed that he felt calm after the search, despite the serious nature of the allegations against him. As the investigation unfolds, the findings presented by the UCO could lead to significant legal ramifications for the former minister and possibly other individuals involved in the alleged corruption scheme.
