Germany Bans Right-Wing Magazine Compact Amidst Allegations of Spreading Extremist Propaganda
Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser of the SPD party in Germany has announced the ban of the right-wing magazine Compact. The ban comes after a report from Der Spiegel revealed that the magazine, led by publicist Jürgen Elsässer, is allegedly promoting content that goes against the constitutional order of the country. Since early Tuesday morning, authorities have been carrying out searches in houses and offices in regions like Brandenburg, Saxony, Hesse, and Saxony-Anhalt. These searches include the premises of the media company located in Falkensee near Berlin. The goal of these raids is to seize documents, data carriers, and assets belonging to the company behind Compact. The monthly magazine has been in publication since 2010 and is considered a significant publication within the new right-wing scene in Germany. The magazine has been linked to the völkisch wing of the AfD party, the right-wing extremist minor party Freie Sachsen, and activists of the Identitarian Movement. Compact has a history of spreading conspiracy theories, pro-Russian propaganda, and anti-Semitic narratives. As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to come to light regarding the content and activities of Compact.
