Giovanni Amoroso Elected President of the Constitutional Court
The Constitutional Court has chosen Giovanni Amoroso as its new president, succeeding Augusto Barbera, whose term expired a month ago. At 76 years old, Amoroso is the oldest member of the Court and has previously served as the acting president. Having been a magistrate since 1976 and a judge of the Court since 2017, his presidency is set to continue until 2026. In his statements following the election, Amoroso emphasized that he does not have specific programmatic lines to lay out, noting that the Court operates as a deeply collegial body and that its activities are fundamentally guided by the Constitution.
